How Copart Fees Are Calculated

When you win a vehicle at a Copart auction, the final cost is more than just your winning bid. Copart charges several additional fees that can add hundreds or thousands of dollars to your total. Our calculator estimates these fees based on the current publicly available Copart member fee schedule.

Buyer Fee

The buyer fee is the largest variable cost. It is tiered based on your winning bid amount and your buyer type. Individual (public) buyers pay significantly higher buyer fees than business (licensed dealer) buyers. For individual buyers, the fee ranges from $25 for bids under $50 up to 15% of the bid for amounts over $10,000.

Internet Bid Fee (Virtual Bid Fee)

If you bid online rather than in person, Copart charges an Internet Bid Fee. This fee ranges from $0 (bids under $100) to $129 (bids over $8,000). If you attend the auction in person or use a kiosk, this fee is waived entirely.

Gate Fee and Additional Fees

Every vehicle purchase includes a gate fee of $95.00 and estimated additional fees of $59.00 covering environmental, service, and mailing costs. These are flat charges that apply regardless of bid amount, buyer type, or auction method.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do these fees include sales tax?
No. Sales tax is calculated separately and varies by your state, the vehicle location, and your buyer type. Licensed dealers may be exempt from sales tax in some states. Always check your official Copart invoice for the tax amount.
Does this include shipping or transportation costs?
No. Transportation costs are separate and depend on distance, vehicle condition (running or not), and the transport company. Costs typically range from $200 to $2,000+. See our shipping cost guide for estimates.
What is the difference between Individual and Business buyer fees?
Individual (public) buyers pay tiered buyer fees that range from $25 to 15% of the bid amount. Business (licensed dealer) buyers pay lower fees, typically ranging from $35 to $700 plus 1% of the bid. The business fee schedule has fewer tiers with significantly lower rates at higher bid amounts.
What is the Internet Bid Fee?
The Internet Bid Fee (also called Virtual Bid Fee) is charged when you bid online instead of attending a live auction in person. It ranges from $0 (for bids under $100) to $129 (for bids over $8,000). If you bid in person at a live auction or kiosk, this fee is waived.
How accurate is this calculator?
This calculator estimates standard Copart auction fees based on publicly available fee schedules. Actual fees may vary by yard location, vehicle type, title status, and membership level. Always refer to your official Copart invoice for the final amount.
What additional fees are not shown here?
This calculator does not include storage fees (charged daily if you don't pick up your vehicle promptly), late payment penalties, broker fees (if you use a broker to purchase), sales tax, or transportation costs. These can significantly increase your total cost.
